About Moonlit Audio Book

Moonlit Audio Book is a children's bedtime story app. We take your family's privacy seriously and design the app to comply with COPPA (US) and GDPR (EU) requirements. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have.

What we collect

- Account information when you sign in (such as email and display name from your OAuth provider)

- An anonymous or account-linked user ID and membership tier on our servers

- Playback progress and favourites stored on your device

- Optional profile photo if you choose to upload one

We do not collect precise location, advertising IDs, or knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. Firebase Analytics is off by default and only runs if a parent opts in.

Story audio & narration

Story audio is generated on our servers (neural text-to-speech) and delivered to the app as audio files. When you play a story, audio may be streamed from our servers and/or cached locally on your device for smoother playback and offline listening of chapters you have already downloaded. Story text is not sent to third-party AI services for model training.

The app does not use on-device system text-to-speech for story narration. Playback uses cloud-generated audio only (streamed or from the local cache).

Firebase (Google) analytics & diagnostics

The mobile app can use Google Firebase Analytics only when a parent or guardian turns on Share anonymous usage data in Settings (off by default). We do not collect Advertising IDs and we do not use Firebase for ads or ad personalization.

When opted in, Firebase may receive:

- App usage events (such as sign-in method, story play, screen views, subscription purchase, age gate acceptance)

- A pseudonymous user identifier and membership tier label tied to your account

- Device and app technical information (such as device model, operating system version, app version, language)

We do not use Firebase for targeted ads. Firebase is operated by Google LLC. Learn more at https://policies.google.com/privacy

Your choices:

- Leave usage analytics off (the default) — no Firebase Analytics collection

- Turn usage analytics on or off anytime in Settings

Our servers

When you use the app, our API may process:

- Authentication tokens from Google or Apple sign-in

- Story catalog requests, playback metadata, and subscription verification through Google Play or the App Store

- Requests to prepare or refresh story narration audio on our servers

- Server logs (IP address, request time, API path) for security and operations — retained for a limited time

Data retention & deletion

- Local audio cache and app settings can be cleared in Settings at any time

- Delete your account in the app: Settings → Delete account (immediate)

- Delete without the app: use our public deletion page at `/legal/delete-account` (Google Sign-In for immediate delete, or email request fulfilled within the stated timeframe after ownership verification)

- Contact us if you need help with a deletion request

- Firebase/Google retention is governed by Google's policies and our Firebase project settings

Your rights (GDPR / similar laws)

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete personal data we hold about you. Contact us using the email below.

Children

Moonlit Audio Book is intended for families. A parent or guardian (13+) should set up and supervise use of the app. We do not serve targeted advertising to children. We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to create accounts without verifiable parental consent.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Updated" date at the top of the web page reflects the latest version. Continued use of the app after changes means you accept the updated policy.
